For Women Voters, Ideology Trumps the Gender Card (also, the sky is blue and Barack Obama is (still) the President)

In a new revelation from the LA Times, those crazy LadyVoters™ in California this election year are focusing on the positions, character and ethics of political candidates rather than whether or not said candidates possess vaginas. Surprisingly enough, even black LadyVoters™ (remember, there is a clear difference between regular LadyVoters™ and their minority counterparts) did the same damn thing during the 2008 Democratic presidential primaries! They didn’t necessarily try to decide which socially constructed category was more important to them (since race and gender don’t work together or anything crazy like that). They tried to focus on experience and political ideology!

In all honesty, this is what true progress means. For example, I supported Barack Obama in 2008 after he won the Democratic nomination (don’t get me wrong, I still love Hillary), but not because he’s a person of color like me. Also, his race isn’t a factor in why I’m disappointed with his performance and policies (unlike some Americans). He’s just a wuss when it gets down to fighting for important causes. See? Even LadyVoters™ like me expect competent leadership and delivery on the promises that our politicians make! Maybe that’s why the media thinks we’re so stupid.

Throughout history, LadyVoters™ have automatically gravitated towards LadyCandidates™ and their vaginas (or lack thereof). Even anti-choice, pro-pay-for-your-own-damn-rape-kit hockey mom Sarah Palin has captured LadyVoters™ all across America. Her endorsement of conservative LadyCandidates™ and reclamation of the word ‘feminist’ was bound to draw us to her somehow.

Unfortunately, LadyVoters™ just don’t seem to understand the significance of a LadyPresident™ or a LadySenator™. Because as we know, all ladies support the same issues and have the same voting outlook, n’est-ce pas ?

Until we achieve homogeneous voting patterns and stop trusting politicians, LadyVoters™ should continue not thinking with their vaginas and shocking national newspapers.
